THURSDAY
🎉 Sooo…look at this sentence: ok, perfect.
Now, as you are reading this, we want you to grin.
Ok, good. Great grin by the way.
Now, as you’re still grinning, we want you to read the first sentence in the paragraph below.
It is Friday Eve, you good looking thing, you.
There are resources, tips, and interactive tools that we have at our digital disposal to help us stay cool and hydrated during this summer of hotness
ON THIS DAY…
🐰 July 27th, 1940 - rabbit, rabbit:
Warner Bros. released ‘A Wild Hare,’ a Looney Tunes animated short film. This animation would allow Bugs Bunny to make his debut in his familiar incarnation; earlier versions had Bugs as more of a cartoon-stencil like look
Los Angeles also had its first recorded traffic-jam, 114 years ago this week.
THURSDAY HEADLINES
🐐 When the grass gets too hot, just give the goats a call: Culver City is adding a unique tactic to help stand alongside the men and women that serve at our fire stations. And that tactic is goats. Yes, you read that correctly. Goats. These flurry friends have a variety of appetites and can consistently eat dry vegetation, grass, and just about anything that our dry weather environment throws their way. This GOAT of a strategy will help clear anything that could be deemed highly flammable. Now, if we just had this type of offer that incorporated McDonalds…
💃 Making a concert stop to SoFi seamless and Swift: Our own ABC7 has a complete guide packed with know-hows, and even things to do, for those that are either going to see Taylor Swift at SoFi, or are just simply going to be in the area. Either way, this guide does provide a nice picture of Inglewood as it includes great places to eat near the stadium
🏸 There was no pickleball emoji: …but there is indeed a pickleball court coming to the Promenade. The new court will be located where the Adidas store once was. It will be 10,000 square feet of a sport that we want to personally get into, complete with an indoor pickleball club, a bar and some vibe areas
EATS
🥪 Pastrami sandwich at Nate’n Al’s: This Beverly Hills sandwich shoppe has been in existence for nearly eighty-years, and is frequently visited by some well-knowns in that of Larry David and was even a favorite of the late Larry King. And we understand why: the vibe, soups, and sandwiches make us all want to get bunkered-in, be pleasant and cozy (in moderation, folks, in moderation!) with one another
🍊 A new happy hour menu that Tops the list: Top Chef Celebrity Shirley Chung has added a new spice to the Culver City restaurant that she operates, Ms Chi Cafè. Her progressive-Chinese cafe will now have a variety of bevi options for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Stay sober, don’t get pulled over
🇮🇩 The only Indonesian restaurant opens in Woodland Hills: LaaLaaPan, located on Ventura Blvd, welcomed patrons a month ago in June. And the wife and husband owners behind the eatery have seen much success. Not only because of exclusivity, but more-so, the great selection of food that LaaLaaPan has to offer
WANTED: THE ESCAPE OF CARLOS GHOSN
It’s a riveting story of CEO-turned-fugitive Carlos Ghosn and his relentless climb to the top of the corporate ladder, a very shocking arrest, and one of the most unbelievable escapes that stunned our world. And the story is still unfolding as we speak…
Catch the four-part documentary series, ‘Wanted: The Escape of Carlos Ghosn,’ Friday, August 24th streaming on Apple TV+

👮 A national night out, coming to Santa Monica: ’Everyone Can Be a Superhero’ is the theme for this year’s community-collaboration with the Santa Monica Police Department. During the event, we can meet with police personnel, ask if they can help us out with speeding tickets, listen to the COPS theme song, have some grub (no donuts), and appreciate those who utilize their badge as a representation of service and stewardship
🚧 Bluffing bluff causes traffic bluff in Santa Monica: For those planning to hit the road in Santa Monica late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning next week, we should avoid the westbound 10 Freeway and northbound PCH. A crack in the bluff above PCH has prompted city officials to close those routes for emergency repairs. Don’t worry, the bluff is not about to collapse, but it does need some TLC from a giant crane and a clamshell
🎭️ No writer’s block in this room: The Writer’s Room at the Geffen Playhouse added six new writers for their upcoming 2023/2024 season. The Writer’s Room has been well-known for over the years in their commitment to supporting new plays, and new fostering ideas
CITY + G’VT
🐶 Animal care hours extended: With the scorching weather, many animal shelters are making the cool move to stay open past their normal operating hours. Currently, our animal care centers are only open for roughly twenty-three hours throughout the seven-day week. But starting August 1st, this number will move up to thirty-six hours to ensure that every pet has shelter, and hopefully, a loving family and a good home
🛝 New options for Sepulveda Basin Vision Plan: The largest open space in the San Fernando Valley comes to us with 2,000 acres of creative thinking. In recent meetings, alternative plans have been looked into to maximize our creativity. Foundational plans, however, like the Balboa Aquatic Center, the Hjelte Soccer Field, and an extension of L.A. River from White Oak to Burbank are still intact
ARTS
🎸 More summer concerts to jam to: Iconic venues with scenery and speakeasies will provide us all with additional, of the many, choices that we currently have to get our music vibes groovin. From Manhattan Village, to the Winston House, and some cool ones in-between

🏥 Kaiser surgery center planned in Venice: Kaiser submitted a proposal to the city this week with the hopes of building a new surgery center on W. Venice Boulevard. If approved, construction would call for a 63,000 sqft building and parking to fulfill three-hundred sedans
