THURSDAY HEADLINES

• ⚽️ Angel City FC represented in World Cup: The 2023 Women’s World Cup kicked off last night in a clash between New Zealand and Norway. Angel City FC’s Ali Riley took the field for New Zealand as one of four players representing our club. Japan’s Jun Endo + America’s own Alyssa Thompson and Julie Ertz are also set to shine at the World Cup. New Zealand and Australia are co-hosting, so they both have home advantage. But we have heart advantage. Don’t miss America’s first game as we face Vietnam on Friday, 21st, at 4pm. Angel City FC has us covered with watch parties for every game all over our city. • 🏖️ The best ten beaches for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing: We have featured beaches with the best blue water, and those beaches were stunning. Now, the folks over at Secret Los Angeles have released their list of ten beaches where we can have the most fun. The gold goes to Manhattan Beach, silver to Leo Carrillo State Park, and bronze to Point Dume State Beach

• 🍗 Long Beach’s Shlap Muan expands: Many food critics say that Shlap Muan is the best place to get chicken in Long Beach. And they are probably right as Shlap Muan, which means ‘chicken wing’ in Khmer, has set chicken shop in three locations since the eatery opened up last year

• 🏆️ Michelin’s Walk of The Best for Los Angeles, mapped: Eatery: Los Angeles, has mapped out this year’s local winners of Michelin awards. Also mapped out are Michelin’s awards for best eats on a budget, so there should be something for everybody

• 🚄 Lighting fast to Vegas: Brightline West, the high-speed rail project connecting Las Vegas and Southern California, has cleared a major environmental. The $12 billion, 218-mile system will feature stations in Hesperia and Rancho Cucamonga, with electric trains running every hour. Construction is expected to start by the end of the year and service to begin in 2027.

• 🎟️ SAG-AFTRA discounts: Many restaurants are offering discounts to support our underpaid creatives that have SAG-AFTRA status. We can only assume that other restaurants will be added to this yummy list

SPORTS

• ⚽️ Real Madrid en route to Los Angeles: The Spanish football club is currently en-route to Los Angeles to compete in The Soccer Champions Tour, played at the Rose Bowl. For those die-hard fans, the team will stay at The Maybourne Hotel after landing from a twelve-hour flight

• 🏀 A good chance we get an MVP this upcoming season: The Clippers are getting an MVP-like arena in that of the Intuit Dome, which is set to open for the 2024-2025 season. But what are the odds that The Clippers land an A-list player?

• 🖼️ Silver Lake gets new art gallery: The Jogani Gallery just opened in the Silver Lake area. The gallery is multi-purpose, serving as both a showcase of Jogani gemstones, as well as a place for other curators to work and promote their mastery

• 🃏 A display that shows its hands: The Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station is showing its hand with a House of Cards display installation. The display, curated by artist Cohen-Bacry, features a collage of colorful playing cards of various sizes hanging from the ceilings. The display runs now through August 18th

• 🌄 Summer arts soiree: Come and meet the 2023-2024 Glendale Arts Board of Directors and Staff to help kickoff the upcoming 2023 Glendale International Film Festival on Saturday, August 5th, starting at 6:00pm!

• 🏎️ Tesla to convert Pacific Theatres into delivery hub: The old Chatsworth movie theatre, Pacific Theatres, will be converted into a Tesla delivery hub and service center. The interior of the movie theatre is roughly 118,000 square feet, much bigger than the pizza parlor Tesla is converting to a fast-charging diner station in Hollywood. Renderings show that the movie theater’s exterior will have black, gray, and red colors stamped with the company’s logo and name

• 🚧 Three projects in the works along Bundy Drive: A pathway has been cleared for numerous projects along Bundy Drive. One of those projects will make way for over six-hundred new apartments
