• Grammy-winning legend Thelma Houston headlines Voices of Hope tonight at Catalina Jazz Club, joined by Freda Payne, Evelyn Champagne King, and more. Hosted by Kym Whitley, the event supports seniors displaced by LA’s devastating fires, which have impacted over 850 elderly residents. With less than 2% of aid reaching seniors, the CFB Foundation is stepping in to provide housing, medical aid, and emotional support. FORECAST 🏄‍♂️ Record-Breaking Heatwave to Scorch LA This Week:

• We are bracing for an unseasonably intense heatwave, with temperatures expected to soar 15 to 20 degrees above normal. The National Weather Service forecasts highs reaching the low 90s by midweek, potentially setting new daily records across the region. Meteorologist Paul Steward attributes this surge to a strengthening high-pressure ridge, with Wednesday anticipated as the peak heat day. The San Diego office highlights areas like Riverside, Anaheim, and El Cajon approaching 90 degrees. While a cooling trend may begin Thursday, temperatures will remain above average, with only light precipitation possible over the weekend. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

BURBANK 🔑 Burbank Moves Forward with Stronger Tenant Protections:

• Burbank’s City Council introduced a new tenant protection ordinance aimed at preventing landlord harassment, retaliation, and intimidation while refining rules on eviction and relocation payments. The ordinance, which passed 3-1 in its first reading, strengthens existing laws by enforcing stricter anti-harassment measures and exempting landlords from certain payouts when a family member moves into a unit. It follows a wave of post-pandemic evictions that saw landlords exploiting legal loopholes to increase rent. BURBANK 🌴 From Dirt Lot to Green Haven:

• The Hollywood Way/Clark Community Garden has officially opened in Burbank, transforming a once-empty lot into a thriving space for urban agriculture. Backed by the City of Burbank, LACGC, and LADWP, the garden provides residents with plots to grow fresh produce while fostering sustainability and community connections. HOLLYWOOD 🎬️ 67 New Apartments Rise on N. Alfred Street:

• Construction is underway on N. Alfred Street in Hollywood, where Brennen Hakimian Holdings is developing a five-story, 67-unit residential building designed by Warren Techentin Architecture. Utilizing density bonus incentives, the project includes seven affordable units and wraps around a central courtyard. Located just south of Santa Monica Boulevard, it sits near another planned 144-unit affordable housing development. Hakimian and Techentin are also behind similar projects in Westwood and Cheviot Hills.

NORTH HILLS 🏡 Luna Vista Brings 73 Affordable Homes:

• Luna Vista, a new affordable housing development by Hollywood Community Housing Corp, has officially completed construction on Parthenia Place in North Hills. Designed by Brooks + Scarpa, the four-story complex features 73 one- and two-bedroom apartments, including permanent supportive housing for residents earning up to 30% of the area’s median income and low-income households at 40-50% AMI. The project also includes underground parking, offering much-needed housing in Los Angeles.

KOREATOWN 🇰🇷 Development Moves Forward Despite Appeal:

• The Los Angeles City Council has denied an appeal from a union-backed group seeking to block an eight-story, 163-unit residential project on S. Berendo Street. Developer Hankey Capital secured approvals with Transit Oriented Communities incentives, reserving eighteen units for extremely low-income housing. The appeal, led by SAFER, argued for additional environmental review but was rejected. This marks Hankey’s latest Koreatown project, following the 25-story Kurve tower and a 490-unit development near Vermont/Beverly Station.
