It’s Fat Tuesday: representing the last day to eat that good hearty food for those that celebrate Lent.

To kick off our morning in Fat Tuesday and LA style, here are some of our city’s newest brunch spots, as given to us from the fine folks over at Eater: Los Angeles.

🥐Thirteen of the hottest new brunch spots in our city: From the classic steak and eggs at Charcoal in Venice to the innovative dishes at Ryla, this list from Eater: Los Angeles has something for everyone. Swanky Ardor in West Hollywood and the vegetarian Butcher's Daughter in West Hollywood also offer delicious options. The Den on Sunset serves up decadent brunches, including hot honey fried chicken and waffles, while Connie and Ted's refreshed weekend brunch menu includes shrimp chilaquiles and lobster croque. Mother Tongue in Hollywood offers a healthy brunch menu, and Madre! Oaxacan Restaurant and Mezcaleria serves brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. Grab a bite out of this article over at Eater: Los Angeles for more mouthwatering options

📚️DYK: Our Libraries offer free income tax preparation and filing?: Our Los Angeles Library System offers a variety of options for those that wish to take advantage of free assistance, from the smart bookworms that know best! These options include in-person tax help, online tax help, resources for tax disputes, and more!

📸 Local Los Angeles photographer snaps over 200 film locations: A Reddit user recently posted over 200 photographs of what film locations look like now, in modern day, and then compares each photograph to what the set looked like when those movies were in production. We love the Reddit community, and we love these pictures!

🍄 Let’s talk more about the amusement of food: Toadstool Cafe recently opened with a menu of theme park favorites and a few unexpected twists inspired by the world of Mario Bros. The restaurant offers a range of dishes from salads, soups, knots, and burgers. Reviews from across the web, including Eater, WDW News Today, and Theme Park Insider, give an overall positive rating of the dishes, highlighting the impressive presentation of the Piranha Plant Caprese, the strong taste and potent dressing in the Super Star Chicken Salad, and the adorable toadstool shape of the Cheesy Garlic Knots

🏡 Stilt House lists for $1.6 million: An iconic house, known as the Stilt House, has just been listed with an asking price of $1.6 million. The Stilt House has been in various movies, including the 1995 hit, Heat, that starred Robert De Niro and Al Pacaino. The Stilt House was originally purchased twenty-years ago, and continues to have stunning views to this day: from the Hollywood Sign, to Catalina Island, and everything in-between. The house itself includes a sixty foot deck, a lower deck, a yard with a putting green, and a minibar. Everyone that has lived in the Stilt House has been thrilled with it. And we would be thrilled too

🎬️ Lights, camera, action in Palmdale!: Palmdale is stepping into the spotlight with the opening of its first film stage, marking a significant milestone in the development of a High Desert Hollywood. The 6,000-square-foot facility includes a 2,500-square-foot green screen, green room, dressing room, hair and makeup room, kitchen, and flexible space to cater to filmmakers' needs. With over 900 film permits issued in 2022, officials aim to establish a permanent presence of the film industry to diversify the local economy and bring well-paying jobs to the area

📖 Let’s get indie with bookstores: Jhoanna Belfer ignored naysayers when she opened Bel Canto Books in Long Beach, now part of a creative collective that includes a plant shop, cafe, and vintage goods. The bookstore has been so successful that Belfer recently opened a second location in North Long Beach, joining forces with other diverse business owners. Bel Canto Books also hosts events and pop-up vendors, offering opportunities for new entrepreneurs to test their ideas

🏖️ Winter beauty found within our beaches: Children are splashing around in ice-cold water, birds are eagerly awaiting treats from beach-goers, and brave souls are even braving the frigid surf at Santa Monica Beach. This week saw temperatures drop to unprecedented lows in Southern California, breaking records in several communities. But for those willing to brave the cold, it's a chance to enjoy the great outdoors in a way that few others will

🏆️NAACP Image Awards announced: The NAACP Image Awards took place last night, celebrating Black excellence in music, film, and television. 🛹 Great, Scott!: The stars of Back to the Future had a reunion recently at Fan Expo Portland. This reunion marks the second time Fox and Lloyd have reunited in recent months, after meeting at New York Comic Con in October. The beloved film franchise still resonates with fans decades after its debut, proving that time travel is timeless

Ronald Regan, as seen in The Bad Man (1941) | via Public Domain

In Honor of Presidents Day, yesterday:

Prior to becoming our 40th President, Ronald Reagan accomplished the following:

  • Announced four football games for The Big Ten Conference in Davenport, Iowa [1932]

  • Worked at WHO Radio in Des Moines, Iowa as an announcer for The Chicago Cubs: in particular, creating play-by-play of games using only basic descriptions that the station received by wire when the games were in progress [1932-1936]

  • Signed a seven-year contract with Warner Brother Studios [1937]

  • Made Hollywood debut in Love Is on the Air [1937], then starred in various movies and TV, some of which included:

  • Dark Victory [1939]

  • Santa Fe Trail [1940]

  • Knute Rockne, All American [1940]

  • Desperate Journey [1942]

  • Kings Row [1942]

  • Louisa [1950]

  • Bedtime for Bonzo [1951]

  • Cattle Queen of Montana [1954]

  • Reagan’s last television appearance was in The Killers [1964]

  • Gallup Polls considered Reagan as ‘Top 100’ in Hollywood [1941 to 1942]

  • Reagan served as President, Screen Actors Guild [1959-1960]

Outside of Hollywood, Reagan served within the United States Military as a public relations officer, based out of Culver City. And though there were many more accomplishments in-between, Reagan would become our State’s 33rd Governor. Ronald Reagan would then serve as our Nation’s 40th President, serving two terms from 1980-1989.

Thank you, President Reagan, for your service.
