Irvine Park Railroad is a one-third scale miniature railroad located in Irvine Regional Park in Irvine, California. The railroad was founded in 1996 by John and Steve Thomas, two brothers who grew up working at the park's snack bar. The Thomases were inspired by the park's history as a popular tourist destination in the early 1900s, and they wanted to create a new attraction that would appeal to families and visitors of all ages.
The train is powered by a 1949 Whitcomb diesel locomotive and features two passenger cars. The train travels around a one-mile track that winds through the park, passing by a variety of scenic attractions, including a pond, a waterfall, and a redwood forest.
The Irvine Park Railroad is a popular destination for families with young children. The train ride is approximately 15 minutes long, and it is a great way to see the park and learn about its history. The railroad also offers a variety of other activities, including pony rides, a petting zoo, and a playground.
The entity is a non-profit organization, and it is operated by a team of dedicated volunteers. The railroad is a valuable asset to the Irvine community, and it provides a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
