LITTLE TOKYO 🍜 HINODEYA RAMEN

• Hinodeya Ramen is set to introduce its renowned dashi-based ramen to Little Tokyo. A new branch will soon open on E 2nd Street, taking over the former Tsukemen Aizen spot. Famous for its flavorful broths crafted from bonito, kombu, and scallop, this San Francisco-based chain already operates in Palms and now adds a second location in LA. GLENDALE ⛰️ MTN. OAKS PROPERTY

• The City of Glendale has made a significant move for conservation with the MRCA’s purchase of 33 acres of the historic Mountain Oaks property. Once a 1920s estate and abandoned in the '70s, this area is now preserved as oak woodland. The $6.1m deal, years in the making, received $2.5m from city-allocated grants, along with federal and regional support. Officials confirm the land will remain undeveloped, permanently protected, and open for public enjoyment. Mayor Elen Asatryan praised it as 'a big win for conservation and future generations.'

FORECAST 🌡️ HEATWAVE ALERT

• Southern California is preparing for a significant heatwave this week, with temperatures possibly reaching triple digits in certain areas. After a cooler start to spring, temperatures will rise into the 70s along the coast and 80s inland today, with some inland areas reaching the 90s by Wednesday. The heat may set records, especially in the San Fernando Valley. A brief cool down is expected on tonight, but the early summer-like weather could last through this week. The National Weather Service warns that temperatures could be 12 to 18 degrees above average, marking an atypical heat event for April.

• A new development called The Legacy is planned for Knowlton Avenue in Westchester, bringing 174 apartments in four- and five-story buildings. Developed by IRC and Associates and designed by Vanos Architects, the project will replace current residential structures and add 193 parking spaces. The apartments range from studios to three-bedrooms, with 32 units allocated for low- and very low-income households. The project employs AB 1287 and density bonus incentives to go beyond zoning limits and meet affordable housing standards.

KOREATOWN 🏡 S. HOBART BLVD

• The construction of a seven-story, 80-unit affordable housing building on S. Hobart Blvd. in Koreatown has topped out. Developed by Leo Lee under Executive Directive 1, the project includes studio and one-bedroom units without on-site parking, made possible by density bonus incentives. Designed by EWAI, the building showcases a white stucco exterior with metal accents. It is located just south of Lee’s previously delayed site on W. 6th Street, now set for a 301-unit mixed-use project.

• LA’s TOGETHXR, a women’s sports media and commerce brand founded by Alex Morgan, Chloe Kim, Simone Manuel, and Sue Bird, has reached profitability and tripled its revenue year over year. The company recently secured new funding from investors such as BBG Ventures, Ingeborg Investments, Present Ventures, Heraean Capital, and Locker Room Capital. • Santa Monica’s City Council has passed zoning changes to enhance downtown business, aligning with Barnes & Noble's reopening on the Third Street Promenade. The updates reduce limits on community assembly spaces and simplify digital signage regulations. Although Mayor Lana Negrete questioned the temporary rules, city staff noted that this flexibility aids business adaptation, with current signage remaining permanent. AIRVET 🐶 $11M SERIES B-2

• Los Angeles-based Airvet has raised $11m in a Series B-2 funding round led by HighlandX, after experiencing a fourfold increase in enterprise revenue year over year. The pet telehealth platform is gaining popularity as a valuable employee benefit, used by companies such as PepsiCo, Adobe, and Levi’s to support employees who are pet owners. Amid a shortage of veterinarians and rising pet care expenses, Airvet provides 24/7 virtual veterinary services and has expanded to include online pharmacy, pet insurance discounts, and multilingual access. The funding will help Airvet scale further, with backing from HIPstr and HighPost Capital.

MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 🚁 TRAILER DROP

• The first official trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has been released by Paramount, following its reveal at CinemaCon. Tom Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt in what is described as his last mission, taking on an AI supervillain and revisiting storylines from the series. Viewers can expect more daring stunts, such as a face-off with a 1930s biplane, and the signature thrilling foot chases.
