💧 Capturing water, one drop at a time: The county is building a six-million gallon underground water storage system at Adventure Park in Whittier to capture the monsoon of stormwater that we are receiving. This project, along with others, will help the community capture eighteen billion gallons of water over the next five years, decreasing our reliance on external water sources. The project will also enhance the park with new walking paths, a sports field, and restrooms while saving valuable water underground. This is certainly a win-win for us all

🔎 Big Brother is watching you: Open casting calls for the 25th season of Big Brother are happening in WeHo. Those wanting a shot to earn $750,000 should head to State Social House, located on Sunset Blvd, on March 11th between the hours of 11am - 3pm: tip, be extra early, because much like the show, the unexpected of life can happen, so best to prepare and prioritize

🏡 A community investment for Baldwin Village: Avanath Capital Management, the largest Black-owned affordable housing investor, has invested a record $220 million to purchase the 669-unit Baldwin Village Apartments in preserving 468 units as affordable for the next 55 years. The investment provides long-term affordable housing solutions to local residents. Avanath will also partner with local non-profit organizations to provide residents with access to after-school programs and financial literacy training

💚 Who has the best green thumb in Lakewood?: The Lakewood Beautiful program is accepting nominations until March 29, 2023 to vote on the best home and yard. Studies show that beautifying homes and neighborhoods can lead to lower crime rates and healthier property values. Judges are looking for well-maintained exteriors, balanced landscaping, and attention to detail. Don't miss this chance nominate your own property, or a neighbor's online or by calling City Hall

🎡 50 years of transformation: The Santa Monica Pier, which was originally constructed in 1909 to carry waste pipes beyond the breaking waves, has become the heart of Santa Monica. Despite its initial purpose and its rusty and damaged condition in the early 1970s, many community groups raised funding to save the pier. At that time, local leaders believed it would be best to tear it down due to the high cost of its salvage. However, the pier was ultimately saved and has become one of the community's many historical landmarks. Today, the Santa Monica Pier is a testament to the resilience and power of our community

[Reminder] 📚️ DYK: Our Libraries offer free income tax preparation and filing?: Our Los Angeles Library System offers a variety of options for those that wish to take advantage of free assistance, from the smart bookworms that know best! Friday, we asked: The Ferris Wheel at the Santa Monica Pier is not only Instaworthy, but it is the first and only _______ ferris wheel.

The answer: solar powered

Today’s question: Every city and town is likely home to some interesting laws. And though there are reasons for these laws, when they are first read aloud, they are odd, and sometimes, giggle worthy.

In Los Angeles, it is illegal for a person to lick ____

  1. a toad

  2. a car door handle

  3. a knob to a dwelling

  4. The front of The Hollywood Sign

We will have the answer in tomorrow’s newsletter.

🥇 Everything. Everywhere. All At Once: Everything Everywhere All At Once continues its award season winning streak, taking home top honors at last night’s Screen Actors Guild awards. The film, which follows a Chinese-American family fighting a universe-hopping supervillain during a tax audit, also earned individual awards for Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Jamie Lee Curtis, and 94-year-old patriarch James Hong. The SAG awards are an important precursor to the Oscars, which are right around the corner, March 12th. Other winners last night included Brendan Fraser for best lead actor for The Whale, and TV shows The White Lotus, and Abbott Elementary. Full list of winners from last night…

💛 A lifetime of achievements, a lifetime of insights: Sally Field, the recipient of the SAG Lifetime Achievement award, was interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter before last night’s SAG Awards. In the interview, Field discussed her extensive career spanning over six decades, highlighting various roles she has played. Field talked about her unconventional journey, working at the Actors Studio with Lee Strasberg, and her mother's advice to make friends with the camera. Field's insights into acting are valuable, as she believes that it's not about pretending to be someone else, but rather about finding a connection with the character and bringing them to life

🎞️ Rhianna to shine again at the Oscars: Fresh off her electrifying Super Bowl Halftime performance, Rihanna is set to take on another big stage at the upcoming Oscars. The Grammy-winning singer will perform her nominated song, Lift Me Up, from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, marking the first major performer announced for the event. The song, a beautiful tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman, has been nominated for Best Original Song, and the category is packed with star-studded nominees. With her performance confirmed, the real question now is what stunning outfit will Rihanna rock on the red carpet and stage? The 95th Oscars, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air live on March 12th on ABC
