  • 🏈 Championship Set: Super Bowl 58 is now set with the Chiefs and 49ers to face off on Sunday, February 11th in nearby Las Vegas. The Chiefs beat the Ravens yesterday afternoon to win the AFC Championship, 17 - 10, while the 49ers beat the Lions last night 34 - 31, winning the NFC Championship.

  • 🎉 Venice Beach: Venice Beach is welcoming back Mardi Gras this year. The 2024 theme for the festival is ‘Magical Mystery Trip,’ and will be packed with food, entertainment, costumes, live music, games and more. The fun starts Sunday, February 25th at 11:00am.

  • 💭 Date Night: Ten memorable date night ideas in Los Angeles that are not restaurants.

  • 🎪 Boyle Heights: Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy, the amusement park backed by entertainer Drake and his group DreamCrew, is now open in the Boyle Heights neighborhood. The amusement park features various arts and exhibitions, with works from artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Joseph Beuys. Beverly Hills Realtor + CuratedLA Curator, Michael Collins, provided this recommendation to us all, ‘I have never experienced anything like this.’

  • 🪸 Malibu: The Zuma Foundation was recently awarded as the presenting foundation for this year’s Malibu Triathlon. The triathlon, The Zuma Beach Triathlon, will take on Saturday, September 14th and Sunday, 15th. Saturday will play host to age groups 9-to-14 with a 100 yard + 200 yard swim, two-to-four mile bike race, and one-to-two mile run. Sunday features all other age groups with an eighteen mile bike race, four mile run, 1.5k swim, 40k bike race, and a 10k run.

  • 🏫 Norton Simon’s Museum: Our last chance to visit the Norton Simon’s Museum is upcoming on Monday, February 19th.

COMMUNITY

  • 📝 Penmanship: Students in California are required to learn cursive starting this year. Assembly Bill 446 passed legislation efforts after the bill was championed by a former elementary school teacher in October. The bill affects 2.6 million of our elementary school youth.

  • 🧑‍🚀 Space Shuttle: Endeavour will soar into its final museum home tonight at the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center. The process of getting Endeavour into the center requires an engineer’s skillset, but it all starts tonight at 10:00pm.

  • 👮 Tracking Pasadena: The City of Pasadena voted on measures to track the location of suspects and missing persons provided a warrant. The new technology will allow police officers to identify real-time locations for either rescue or apprehension efforts.

  • 🧑‍🎤 Green Day Surprise: Green Day surprised patrons of Burbank’s Magnolia Park, crashing Run Out Groove Records during a listening party that the store held for fans.

  • 👮 Showoff: Deputy Allison Hook showed off her drumline skills recently at West Ranch High School, where she graduated nearly ten years ago. Hook did so during halftime at a school basketball game, all while in uniform.

  • 🛝 Playground: The Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach received a new and complete playground, made entirely of eco-friendly plastics.

DEVELOPMENT

  • 💰️ Neighborhood Costs: American Home Shield released a new study, providing a view of our area’s most expensive and least expensive neighborhoods. As seen above, the most expensive homes are found within Bel Air, while the least expensive homes (per square feet) can be found within South Park.

  • 🎬️ Hollywood Blvd: The Los Angeles Department of Transportation is hosting a virtual town hall this upcoming Thursday, February 1st, at 6:00pm. The town hall will discuss three new developments for biker and walker safety, covering Downtown LA to Hollywood Blvd.

  • 🌊 Long Beach: A mixed-use complex on Pacific Avenue in Long Beach has broken ground. The development will feature 271 studio, one, two, and three-bedroom apartments. The complex will also house 12,000 square feet of retail brands on the ground floor.

  • 🗻 Canoga Park: A new art incubator has opened in Canoga Park, Taxco Theatre. This community theatre has been designed to promote growing performances and educational opportunities.

💰️INVESTMENTS

  • 🏫 Tech LA: The University of Southern California is investing more in Los Angeles startups, likely leading to the creation of more jobs.

  • 🎞️ Woodland Hills: California Commercial Investment Group has invested in 19-acres of land surrounding the iconic Motion Picture & Television Fund Campus in Woodland Hills. The $30m investment will allow the group to develop a luxury senior living community with approximately three-hundred units.

BUSINESS

  • 🛍️ Beverly Hills: Saks Fifth Avenue is opening up shop in Beverly Hills. The store will open its doors on February 8th and will be located in the former New York Barneys Building.

  • 🛒 Grocery Merger: Kroger and Albertsons are set to merge during the first half of this year. The merger was announced last year with a timeline of the merger recently provided. The companies have created a website that contains further information, including a website with frequently asked questions.

ENTERTAINMENT

🗞️ HEADLINES:

  • 🎥 Directors Guild of America: The DGA has announced film + TV contract negotiations, including the addition of streaming bonuses to match the WGA Contract.

  • 💰️ Sundance Negotiations: Final negotiations are underway as Amazon MGM Studios wishes to seek the rights to an Aubrey Plaza and Maddie Ziegler comedy, ‘My Old Ass.’ The film premiered at Sundance on January 20th, with another showing that took place yesterday. The comedy would stream on Amazon Prime if acquired.

  • 🏈 The Underdoggs: Snoop Dogg’s youth football story comes to life in The Underdoggs. Now available on Amazon Prime, The Underdoggs provides a snapshot into Snoop Dogg’s life growing up in Los Angeles and playing youth football.

  • ❤️ We Love Hollywood: The Hollywood Reporter has released a worthy list of fifty reasons as to why we all still love Hollywood. I didn’t know people were drifting from the fuzzies that Hollywood brings us, but if we are, this is a great read.

  • 📺️ Hulu Streaming: Our area is expected to receive more rain this week. With that, here are some of Hulu’s best TV shows that are available to stream according to StudyFinds.

  • 🎬️ Dine-In Summit: The sixth edition of the Dine-In Summit will take place in Austin, Texas this upcoming weekend. The festival promotes independent films and brings leading cinema executives and vendors together for a four-day weekend.

  • 🎞️ The Oscars: A list of outlets that will allow us to watch the nominees from this year’s Oscars.

🍿 BOX OFFICE:

  • 🎞️ Weekend Earnings: The Beekeeper took first place at the box office this weekend, followed by Mean Girls, Wonka, Migration, Anyone But You and Fighter.

  • 🎬️ New Movie Trailers: A great source for new movie trailers can be found on ONE Media’s YouTube Page. Just released are trailers for Calamity Jane, Road House, Tuesday, Mea Culpa, Junction, and Ricky Stanicky, a Amazon Prime Comedy directed by Peter Farrelly, starring Zac Efron, Jon Cena, Jermaine Flower, William H. SPORTS

  • 🏀 Lakers: The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Golden State Warriors in a double-overtime nail-bitter on Saturday, 145-144. LeBron James played a full-game 48 minutes with 36 points, 20 rebounds and 12 assists. James becomes the first Laker since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to score at least 35 points, grab 20 rebounds, and provide 12 assists, becoming just the third Laker in history to accomplish this feat.

  • 🏈 Chargers: Michigan Defensive Coordinator Jesse Minter will follow Jim Harbaugh to the Los Angeles Chargers, becoming the Charger’s Defensive Coordinator.

  • 🐏 Rams: The Los Angeles Rams are interviewing Ravens’ Defensive Backs Coach Dennard Wilson. The Ravens’ Coach is high in-demand, making this the third interview with the Chargers, and an upcoming second interview with the New York Giants who have also shown interest in Wilson.

  • 🐶 Puppy Therapy: Prior to yesterday’s NFC Championship Game, the San Francisco 49ers participated in puppy therapy. And though the 49ers are some of our rivals, I cannot make a joke. I’m 100% all for this, it just looks so comforting.
