🔥 HOT NEWS…

  • 🚿 LA, you’re so hot right now: We love our sunny California vibes, but this week we're feeling the heat like never before. The National Weather Service has sounded the alarm: we're in for a scorching week, with some spots reaching a sizzling 110. Here is what we all need to know:

  • 📱General heat related tips for the scroll: We know, this information might seem suffocating, but it is important to us as a community outlet to share tips and resources to stay safe during this record-breaking heat:

    • 🥛 Drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol and caffeine (latter being a personal challenge), as both are dehydrating.

    • 👘 Wear clothing that is loose-fit, light/bright-colored, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen.

    • 💨 Seek shade or air conditioning, helpful resources above.

    • ⛔️ Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest parts of our days, 10:00am - 4:00pm.

    • 👨‍👩‍👦 Check on neighbors, friends, family, (and pets! 🐶 ) that will be vulnerable to this record heat.

    • 🤮 This makes us sick to think about - never leave children, individuals that are vulnerable, or pets in a vehicle, even for a second. Don’t think about it.

    • 🏥 If you feel sick or faint, call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency room. Heat-related symptoms, and heat strokes, can include: high-body temperature, confusion, rapid pulse, and loss of consciousness.

EATS

  • 🚀 In our minds, we’ve gone to South Carolina: A new seafood joint, Queens St., which is an ode to a street within the beautiful French Quarters of Charleston, South Carolina, recently opened in our Eagle Rock area. Queens St. includes the best eats from South Carolina’s Lowcountry with framed recipes from Charleston’s Junior League Cookbook. This South Carolina-themed eatery is the latest project from Last Word Hospitality, whose members include Chef Ari Kolender, a South Carolinian in both childhood and cooking spirit.

  • 🍦 Seven LA ice cream experiences: Break into some new taste bud wonders of creamery during this record-breaking heat.

  • 🥷 Bite into Asian entertainment: Dive into a world of secret menus, and delectable dishes that fuse old + new Asian flavours. And do all of this while you watch ninja entertainers wow you with their skills in martial arts, and more. Coming November 2023, tickets now…

  • 💎 We’ve scored big on Michelin’s 2023 List of Budget-Friendly Eats in California: the list includes: Bee Taqueria (Art District/West Adams), Chifa (Eagle Rock), Jiang Non Spring (San Gabriel), Kazan (Beverly Hills), La Azteca (East LA), and Pasadena’s Luscious Dumplings.

  • 🍅 Tomato time: Summer is here and so are the tomatoes at the Ishihara Park Learning Garden. These red beauties are ripe for the picking and bursting with flavor and health benefits.
