TUESDAY

Happy Tuesday, LA!

The video above had us gigglin.’ It is an ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter signing behind Mayor Karen Bass over the weekend.

The video is making airwaves because of the interpreter’s fast hands, and how she transitions with the camera in an effort to continue signing - my goodness, LA City, you better pay her well. She’s awesome.

And speaking of fast hands, you might notice new designs throughout today’s newsletter. We are serious about bringing positivity to all of those news buffs throughout LA. We would love it if you shared this newsletter with your friends!

And PS - more jobs from our job board are on the way!

HEADLINES

HURRICANE HILARY ⛈️ TOTAL RAINFALL IN AREA: A precipitation map from The Public Works Department provides us with a true scope of how much rainfall Hilary gave our area over the weekend. The numbers indeed are historic, and yes, are the ones heard over-and-over throughout the city. But for us, this map put things into perspective with a variety of compare/contrast modes and bulk of data to interact with 🔗 LA Public Works Department

SEPTEMBER 🎡 ONE OF LA’S BEST MONTHS: Our calendars are about to flip soon thanks to September. This is a month that we at CuratedLA truly welcome. In September, LA is home to football, more food festivals, prime time hiking, and a new season of venturing throughout the entire county. If you’re debating on taking a short road trip, or simply wanting to scoot around, then click this guide from one of our own LA locals 🔗 Liz in Los Angeles

EATS

LOS ANGELES 🎃 LA BUZZ FOR PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE: We have received news of where to find pumpkin spice lattes early throughout our city. Dunkin Donuts is ahead of the curve with a new fall menu, one that includes both donuts and muffins. And on the local LA front, there are numerous eateries, including offerings from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf 🖇️ EatDrinkLA

FLORIDA MAN ⚽️ SEPTEMBER 3RD: Lionel Messi and the Florida Men are heading our way on September 3rd for a face off against L.A.F.C. The anticipation is high among fans who want to witness Messi's live performance. The upcoming soccer match is projected to attract a diverse audience of both soccer fans and celebrities alike. The folks at L.A. Taco took the initiative to explore the intriguing question: where would Messi dine during his visit? And they did a lot of investigating, providing us all with a stuffed report 🔗 L.A. Taco

THIS IS SOBERING 🍸️ AN INTEREST IN NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVIES: A set of drinks are making a non-alcoholic splash: mocktails. These alcoholic-free alternatives are just as delicious as their alcoholic counterparts. And they also come with some bonuses, like the ability to drive legally and ethically, to even remembering events from the night prior. If you’re curious to explore this trend, which some of us at CuratedLA have as we are within recovery (and thankful for!), then take a dive into establishments like Asterid, Lobby Lounge, Kato, Employees Only, Death and Company, Big Bar, APB, Maybourne, Accomplice, and Nerano 🔗 Pure Wow

SPORTS

USC TROJANS 🏈 QB CALEB WILLIAMS: Heisman winner Caleb Williams secured a spot on the AP preseason All-American Team. As USC's formidable leader, Williams not only claimed the AP Player of the Year, but also clinched the Heisman last season, a remarkable debut after transferring from Oklahoma. The Trojans are banking on his skillsets this year to elevate them to further glory this year in hopes to a win a Natty 🔗 Tuscon

RAMS 🐏 LIFE WITHOUT KEY PLAYERS: The Rams are experiencing a unique preseason, practicing without key players Aaron Donald and Cooper Kupp. Donald has been absent due to personal reasons, including rest days and the impending birth of his child. But his absence has given the Rams a chance to glimpse life without their defensive stalwart. Similarly, Cooper Kupp has been sidelined due to an excused absence and a hamstring issue, providing the offense the opportunity to adapt without him. Despite these absences, the Rams are notching valuable practice time with quarterback Matthew Stafford and are dispelling any speculation of trading Donald and Kupp. 🔗 Turf Show Times
