🎮️ It’s a-me, LA, a-Mario!: Super Nintendo World is a dream come true for longtime Super Mario fans. Universal Studios Hollywood's newest area immerses visitors in the game experience from the moment they enter through the warp pipe. Peach's Castle, familiar sound effects, colorful characters, and Bowser's Castle all add to the excitement. Although visitors may feel a bit small in comparison to the larger-than-life Goombas and Piranha Plants, the environment is full of Easter eggs and other secrets for them to discover. The park features a variety of activities, including an augmented reality-enhanced ride, a charming restaurant staffed by mushroom-capped Toads, and an exclusive merchandise store. Although the park officially opens on February 17, Universal has already been honing its operations through a mix of technical rehearsals and pass member previews. And speaking of previews, head on over to TimeOut: Los Angeles for a sneak peek at what to expect this Friday

🇯🇲 Bob Marley’s One Love Experience: The Bob Marley One Love Experience exhibit celebrates the reggae legend and his music with an immersive and historical deep dive. It's the perfect cultural event for Black History Month, featuring Marley's music, artifacts, photos, and rare memorabilia, as well as immersive environments like the One Love Forest and a sports room. Bob Marley expert Roger Steffens gives detailed tours on Saturdays, and the exhibit itself is incredible

📆 Best places and events to celebrate Black Culture: It's Black History Month, and there's no shortage of ways to honor the rich cultural heritage of Black Culture in our community. Film buffs can explore the history of Black cinema at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, and the City of Inglewood is hosting its 40th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration. Uplifting Black Voices panel event in Corona offers more opportunities to engage with Black History and Culture. Participate in the Umoja 5k race to commemorate past, present, and continued Black excellence, or attend MOLAA's Afro-Latinx Festival to celebrate the African influence in Latin America. For those looking to support Black-owned businesses, checkout this list of 30 must-visit spots

👀 Whose that man looking at us?: If you've ever driven in circles looking for a cheap parking spot in LA's Arts District, you may have spotted a striking mural on the side of a 100-year-old hotel. It features a man with a red shirt and piercing blue eyes gazing out over the neighborhood. This man is Ed Ruscha, a legendary California artist known for his pop art style and use of typography on bold backgrounds. Originally from Oklahoma, Ruscha was inspired by California's "sparkly, glamorous" culture, and he often incorporates stencils and vivid colors into his work to create tension. And if you do not know Ed because you either have a personal driver, or have assigned parking, then meet him here

Yesterday, we asked: How many people visit Los Angeles County yearly?

The answer: Over 50 million people travel to Los Angeles County yearly.

In surpassing 50 million total visitors, Los Angeles set new tourism records for domestic and international visitation, hosting an estimated 42.5 million domestic visitors (3 percent increase) and 7.5 million international visitors (3.6 percent increase).

Our city has provided the world with timeless, and endless, entertainment through films, movies, plays, comedies, you name it! But Los Angeles has also brought something else to the world.

Can you fill in the blank for today’s question?

Today’s question: By 1930, Los Angeles produced a quarter of the world’s ___?

  1. light bulbs

  2. oil

  3. steel

  4. corn

We will have the answer in tomorrow’s newsletter.

💃 Wish I could be. Part of the Disney World: Disney's live-action remake of "The Little Mermaid" has released a new teaser, giving viewers a first look at Ursula and Prince Eric. Directed by Rob Marshall, the upcoming musical stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, alongside Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, and Javier Bardem as King Triton. The film features four original songs from Lin-Manuel Miranda and Alan Menken, while Jane Goldman and David Magee penned the script. "The Little Mermaid" is set to hit theaters on May 26. Watch the trailer below:

🍿 India Box Office has record year: India's box office made its second-highest revenue of $1.28 billion (Rs106BN) in 2022, just below 2019's record $1.31 billion (Rs109.5BN) despite admissions dipping to 892 million compared to 1.03 billion in 2019. The success of the Avatar series and South Indian mega-hits, such as K.G.F: Chapter 2 and RRR, were among the biggest earners. Hindi films still generated the most gross revenue with $424 million (Rs35BN), but their market share reduced from 44% to 33% in 2022, while Telugu and Tamil films increased. Hollywood's market share fell from 15% in 2019 to 12% in 2022, with Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness and Thor: Love And Thunder being the biggest Hollywood earners

🪄The Dragons and Vikings are back: The dragons and vikings of How to Train Your Dragon are back and ready to soar in a live-action adaptation. Universal Pictures has greenlit the project, with the original trilogy's writer, director, and producer, Dean DeBlois, at the helm. The movie will be based on Cressida Cowell's book series and will follow the heartwarming friendship between Hiccup and Toothless. The project is already underway, with a release date set for March 2025. However, the team faces a creative challenge in finding the balance between making the dragons realistic while still keeping their charming appeal. Universal is taking a big risk, but with the same creator behind the adaptation, it could pay off. Who knows, we might even see more DreamWorks Animation movies come to life in the future

🕯️The story of those that hid Anne Frank: The new limited series A SMALL LIGHT focuses on the inspiring, real-life story of Miep Gies, who played a critical role in hiding Anne Frank and her family during the Nazi occupation in Amsterdam. To honor Miep on what would have been her 114th birthday, National Geographic announced the powerful limited series, produced by ABC Signature and Keshet Studios, will premiere on Monday, May 1, at 9/8c on National Geographic with two back-to-back episodes. New episodes will debut every Monday at 9/8c and 10/9c on National Geographic and will stream next day on Disney+. Told with a modern sensibility, A SMALL LIGHT tells the remarkable true story of secretary Miep Gies (Bel Powley), who was a young, carefree and opinionated woman — at a time when opinions got you killed — when her boss, Otto Frank (Liev Schreiber), asked her to help hide his family from the Nazis during WWII.
