🌊 Insert beautiful blue tone [#socalbeaches]: SIXT recently ranked our nation’s bluest bodies of water, and in a creative way: using RGB color-code to represent the color of blue tone for each location’s water shade. California has nine of our nation’s bluest bodies, six of those locations can be found locally:

  • Santa Monica Beach, Los Angeles [#2A867B]: We should all be familiar with this iconic beach that we are home to. Santa Monica Beach is the official end to Route 66, and the beach’s popularity is seen throughout the eight million people that visit Santa Monica Pier annually. Many come to see the iconic Ferris Wheel, to dine at the pier, enjoy the aquarium, and more

  • Latigo Beach, Malibu [#036F9E]: When needed, we can all escape the city and enjoy the tranquility of Latigo Beach, one of our many hidden gems. Whether we want to stroll, sunbathe, swim…our peaceful paradise awaits

  • Carbon Beach, Malibu [#5C7792]: This is the beach where we can live in a mansion by the sea, where the waves caress our feet, and the sun can warm our soul. Carbon Beach, known to many as Billionaire Beach, houses mansions that are larger than life, right on the sea’s edge. This beach is now public after being private for quite some time

  • La Jolla Cove, San Diego [#1665A8]: we can all experience beauty and diversity at this stunning cove: sea lions, seals, colorful Garibaldi fish and cormorants. Tip: pack a picnic, as this is a great spot for eating a delicious sandwich or food that is easy to travel with

  • Sail Bay, San Diego [#376EA4]: This is the jewel of Mission Bay. This family-friendly beach has a playground, volleyball nets, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, or even just to soak up the sun

  • Coronado Beach, San Diego [#596E71]: Both Top Gun movies were filmed at Coronado, where the iconic Hotel del Coronado sits. The family, friends, or even new friends we make here, can enjoy volleyball, sandcastles, and soak up some son like a Top Gun movie star

🚨 City Council reduces speed limit near schools: The City Council has approved a new 15 mph speed limit on 98 street segments around 45 schools, as well as two-million dollars for speed humps at the 50 highest-need schools. These measures are aimed at protecting students and families from the dangers of speeding drivers on the city’s high injury network

EATS 😋

👀 When you dine at Tam O’Shanter’s, do not sit at table 31: Atwater’s Tam O’Shanter’s is a classic, and has many fine and delicious dishes to choose from. But when you dine, as you should, do not sit at table 31. Why? Well, people will be staring at you. But why? Because for many, this is more than just a steakhouse. It is Disney Magic. Table 31 was where Walt Disney and his team would brainstorm ideas for their cartoons and theme parks over burgers and ribs. The table itself has Disney’s sketches within the wood, and is surrounded by Disney swag. So if you do decide to sit at table 31, you might have a lot of people staring at you. Or you might get some Disney Magic. Or both…

CITY & GOVERNMENT 🌇

🚆 Light rail track from Glendora to Pomona is closer to opening: Leo Avalos hammered the final nail in the coffin of the A Line extension project, connecting Glendora to Pomona by light-rail. The 9.1-mile track was celebrated this past Saturday by local officials who praised the benefits of the electric train for their communities. The project is on track to open in 2025, but the dream of reaching Montclair still hangs in the balance.

🚧 Agoura Hills to give streets a summer makeover: If you live in Agoura Hills, you might notice some road work happening in your neighborhood. That’s because the city is using its share of the state’s gas tax money to fix up 30 streets across the city. The City Council has approved a plan to repair cracks, seal surfaces, and improve the quality of the roads. The project will cost $500,288 and will be funded by SB 1, the 2017 program that invests in California’s transportation infrastructure

SPORTS 🏈

🏆️ A campaign to have NCAA give Reggie Bush his Heisman back:

⛳️ Reddit co-founder and family establish Los Angeles Golf Club: Forget Reddit, tennis, and soccer. Alexis Ohanian, his wife Serena Williams, their daughter Olympia, and Alexis’ sister-in-law Venus Williams have a new passion: golf. But not just any golf. They’re joining the TGL, a virtual golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy that promises to be a game-changer. The TGL is not your grandpa’s golf. It’s a team-based, primetime, tech-savvy, mic’d up, drama-filled golf extravaganza that will make you rethink everything you know about the sport. And the Los Angeles Golf Club, owned by this foursome power is the first team to sign up. Ohanian says he was inspired by his daughter Olympia’s love of mini-golf and his wife’s prowess with a club. He also wants to bring golf, more people and communities in our city, especially those who don’t think it’s for them. He says the TGL is proof that golf is a sport for everyone. The Los Angeles Golf Club will make its debut in January 2024, when the TGL kicks off its inaugural season.
