  • Alma’s Cookies & Company 🍪 This eatery offers Southern Comfort food that is yum all across the board. Alma’s is one of the few within our region that offers the Traditional Southern Meat and Three. Their menu offers cooking that reminds me of my Southern Childhood: potato salad, black-eyed peas, yams, corn on the cob, greens, cabbage, chicken, mac and cheese, Sunday dressing, oxtails, desserts and much more.

  • B&R Burgers 🍔 Another Compton eatery, B&R Burgers serves up two keystones that they are known for: old-fashioned burgers and homemade ice cream. They also offer hearty breakfast options for those patrons when they open their doors at 8:00am.

  • M&T Donuts 🍩 This delicious of a treat has been serving our area since 1978, and the eatery is considered a landmark within the City of Compton. Be sure to come with sweet teeth, not just a tooth, as their offerings range from a variety of donut flavors: double chocolate cake, cinnamon roll, apple fritter, blueberry, to jelly filled, buttermilk bars, and twists.

    • 📍 2013 W. Compton Blvd., 90220

  • Stacked Pasta 🚚 This food truck is straight outta Compton. They are hauling flavor like no other with a fully customizable pasta menu stacked on top of the choice of a bow tie, spaghetti, or penne pasta. KOBE BRYANT 🏀 STATUE TO BE UNVEILED: The Lakers will honor Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant by erecting a statue in front of the arena where he spent the majority of his twenty-year career. The Lakers recently announced their plan to unveil the statue on February 8th at Crypto.com Arena. This announcement was made on August 24, also referred to as "Kobe Day" due to its alignment with Bryant's jersey numbers (8 and 24). Vanessa Bryant revealed that the statue will grace Star Plaza outside the stadium before the Lakers' evening game against the Denver Nuggets, to be aired on TNT. Kobe is the sixth former Lakers player and seventh team member to receive this honor at the arena. Vanessa Bryant expressed her gratitude for the Lakers' decision in a video message, highlighting Kobe's deep connection with Los Angeles and the lasting legacy he left behind:

SANTA MONICA 🇮🇹 TWENTY YEARS OF GOOD ITALIAN EATS: Congratulations to Via Veneto in Santa Monica for twenty years! This Italian eatery is a favorite to A-listers like Chris Hemsworth, Matt Damon, and Harrison Ford. But everyone gets the royal treatment here, even our very own in that of Garrett’s Mom. She heard whispers of Via Veneto’s secretive plans: a speakeasy adjacent to the current location, which will be accessed through a concealed passage, opening up to cozy private seating. Who knows, maybe Garrett’s Mom can get the team to spill secrets during her tasting sessions for the speakeasy’s new cocktail menu. 🔗 Via Veneto Menu

HOLLYWOOD 🏫 SPANISH-STYLE AFFORDABLE HOUSING: A new affordable housing project is slated to break ground at the corner of Cherokee Avenue and Fountain Avenue in Hollywood. The project blends a Spanish-Revival beauty with modern convenience and will house fifty-three units in a five-story building. Each apartment will be welcomed with natural light through ample windows, framing iconic Hollywood views. Current status: In-design, construction expected to start Q4, 2023). 🔗 JZA Architecture

BUSINESS

APPLE 📱 OPEN YOUR EYES: Apple, with offices locally in Culver City, announced for a special Apple Event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park. Many have speculated that Apple will unveil new models of iPhone, but being an Apple Alum, I am wondering what details will be provided for Apple’s VR headset, Apple Vision Pro. Other Apple products that are speculated to be announced: iPhone 15 lineup, Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra 2. But, as it is with Apple, there is always, one more thing… 🔗 9to5Mac

DODGERS 🧢 ZIP PAST DIAMONDBACKS, 9-1: Mookie Betts' 36th home run led the Los Angeles Dodgers to a convincing 9-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks. David Peralta's 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs added to the Dodgers' success. Clayton Kershaw's strong pitching, allowing one run in five innings, and the team's 16 hits secured their fourth straight home win. Up next, Dodgers face the Diamondbacks with RHP Brandon Pfaadt and RHP Ryan Pepiot on the mound. 🔗 Box Score, ESPN
