FRIDAY EVE 🎉
Yesterday was the first day of summer, and today is Friday Eve. And we can’t wait to help you plan your day in Los Angeles. Will you help plan ours? We would love to see what you are reading, watching, promoting, or simply doing (but not in a clingy way, just things you want to share). Submit content below, free. And if we like it, we publish it. Truly.
NEWS 📰
🏅 Priority projects before 2028 Olympics and Paralympics: Yesterday, we discussed the new improvements that are quickly being made within our community: The Regional Connector was announced, in addition to this announcement, a new public restroom facility is set to sink (heh) into the Hollywood area. It comes as no surprise: our city is getting ready for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics games.
In further preparation for 2028, the Metro Board’s 2028 Olympics Committee met. Last Wednesday, the Olympics Committee announced a shortlist of prioritized items prior to the commencement of the 2028 games. After some digging, here is what we found:
Expansion throughout the entire county of new, express bus lanes. Additionally, new TPS (stop signs, signals, traffic routing systems), to be installed in hotspot areas. [est. cost: $1bn]
Traffic control for operations: in particular, the ability for both local and state officials to monitor and manage traffic congestions, swift response for any incidents, and of the like. This upgrade will include new technology components, hardware, and secured cloud access for DOT 🙏 . [est. cost: $150m]
The enhancement of pedestrian and bicycle access in ten locations throughout the county. Some of these areas include: around Pico Station, Union Station, and 7th/Metro Street Stations. [est. cost: $75m]
Zero emission fleets: in addition to our current, and annual purchases, of zero emission buses, Los Angeles has been approved to borrow 850 zero-emit buses throughout our state. This budgeting could also allow to host an additional 450 Metro Crew members in Los Angeles for the 2028 games. [est. cost: $340m]
Open-streets to showcase cultural, arts, event themes, inspiration. An example of this is a corridor on Figueroa Street, which can allow for easy access to major local arts and cultural institutions. [est. cost: $165m]
Inglewood Transit Connector: the well-known 1.6 mile-long elevated automated transit system for people, as seen below. [est. cost: $1.4bn]

🌴 A city where cars don’t rule the streets, people can walk and bike: Barcelona allowed for communities like ours to vision major cities without cars, areas where there is a more quiet atmosphere: people walking and riding bikes in peace. This vision was implemented in 2016 by Barcelona, and L.A.’s 14th District just approved this vision in the form of a pilot program known as Park Blocks. These traffic blocks will transform selected neighborhoods by reducing street traffic, allowing the public to take over our walkable spaces for good. If all goes well, more neighborhoods will follow suit with additional City Council stamps of approval
🍓 A modern food bank in Long Beach: The Food Bank of Southern California is on a mission to feed the hungry and fight food insecurity in our county. With a new location in North Long Beach, a grant to buy fresh produce from local farmers, and a project to offer culturally relevant foods to the Cambodian community, the food bank is ready to serve more people than ever before. Whether it's through mobile food pantries, family food boxes, or urban gardens, the food bank is bringing hope and nourishment to those who need it most

🏈 Rams could have a new NFL training facility: Stan Kroenke, the billionaire developer and owner of the Los Angeles Rams, has big ambitions for the Warner Center neighborhood of Woodland Hills. He has filed plans to build a temporary NFL training facility on a former Anthem Blue Cross parking lot, as part of his larger vision to transform 96 acres of land he owns in the area. The proposed facility would include two football fields and some modular buildings next to the vacant Anthem tower. Kroenke also owns the nearby Promenade Mall and The Village in Woodland Hills outdoor mall, which he plans to redevelop in the future
