SUMMER 🎉
Today is the official day of Summer. And for those new to CuratedLA, we would like to welcome you. You are likely receiving this email based on a prior connection, inquiry, or a shared contact of interest. Either way, we invite you to submit content that is not political or morbid, completely free:
NEWS 📰
🚄 Breaker…breaker…we’ve got some hot news for summer: Los Angeles’ finest Metro Crew unveiled a project that they have been working on since 2013: The Regional Connector. Our city’s new light rail system consists of 1.9 new track miles, providing us with a seamless journey from Azusa to Long Beach, and from East Los Angeles to Santa Monica, all throughout the core of Downtown Los Angeles.
The completion of The Regional Connector is a feat within itself, and now allows for the hook-shaped L (Gold), A (Blue), and E (Expo) to connect, forming two new serpent-like lines where there were once three.
Additionally, The Regional Connector sets underground shop for three new stations: [links over each station open a PFD of that station’s new destination guide]
LITTLE TOKYO/ARTS DISTRICT STATION: riders will now have access to, and enjoy, rich culture, vibrant neighborhoods, and cultural institutions.
Station amenities: bike lockers, bike racks
Station artwork:
Pavilion: Clare Rojas, Harmony
Platform: Audrey Chan, Will Power Allegory
Transit connections: Metro A and E Line, Metro Bus Lines 30, 106, Dash A, Metro Bike Share
HISTORIC BROADWAY STATION: enjoy two nationally registered districts throughout our historic downtown: The Broadway Theatre District, which includes twelve original theaters within seven blocks, and Old Spring Street, an area that is often known as our original Financial District.
Station amenities: bike lockers, bike racks
Station artwork:
Concourse: Mark Steven Greenfield, Red Car Requiem
Platform: Clarence Williams, Migrations
Temporary Lightbox Exhibition: Ralph Gilbert, Performance on the Streets of LA
Transit connections: Metro A and E Line, Metro B and D Line (Civic Center Station), Metro Bus Lines (various), Montebello Bus Line 90, LADOT Commuter Express 419, DASH (various), Metro Bike Share
GRAND AVENUE ARTS/BUNKER HILL: this new station sits west of The Broad Museum and is surrounded by naturally recognized performing arts centers and museums. This area is traditionally known as Bunker Hill and is a residential center for thousands of us Angelenos. This station neighbors Flower Street and Financial District, both of which are within walking distance from the station.
Station amenities: bike lockers, bike racks
Station artwork:
Pavilion: Ann Hamilton, over-under-over
Concourse: Pearl C Hsiung, High Prismatic
Temporary Lightbox Exhibition: Samira Yamin, All is Flux
Transit connections: Metro A and E Line, Metro Bus Lines (various), Metro J Line, Silver Streak, DASH B, Metro Bike Share
New various maps are available for download, in addition to more resources and content from the Metro Crew themselves.
Congratulations to every single Metro Crew Member that worked on this project!
Passengers: cue ‘I feel so close to you right now, it’s a force field…’
🎟️ We are not quite done talking about The Regional Connector… in celebration of The Regional Connector’s grand opening, all Metro Patrons and First Time Riders will have the chance to ride and explore completely free, all throughout this weekend. More from NBC4…
🐟️ Don’t get fishy about it, here are some great places to eat seafood: Eater: Los Angeles just published their favorite nineteen places of the best and freshest seafood throughout L.A. There are a variety of fine places to dine in our area, enough to make a splash for your date: from Providence on Melrose, to the Broad Street Oyster Company in Malibu, you and your date will be sure to have a good time. Just don’t catch anything afterwards. More from Eater: Los Angeles
🥃 Nine of the best places to drink whisky: if your date didn’t go so well at the seafood restaurant, you can down your sorrows away in what Locale Magazine considers are the nine best places to drink whisky. From Hollywood’s Historic The Musso & Frank Grill, to The Cigar Whisky & Bar in Beverly Hills, you’ll be sure to romanticize what could have been. Just be sure to catch a Lyft if you are too drunk to drive.
🚽 Finally, more public restrooms in Hollywood: in preparation for the 2028 Olympics, the City of Hollywood will begin installing forty public restrooms, while developing facilities that will consist of 24/7 staffing, maintenance, and cleaning. The location for these restrooms will be located at 1627 Vine Street, a building owned by L.A.’s Department of Transportation. The project will receive one million dollars from the City of L.A., which is to be transferred to Hollywood’s Partnership nonprofit entity to complete this project. This particular area of our city is visited by more than 1.3 million people annually, and the project is expected to be completed around early 2025.
🎡 Project to replace Santa Monica’s Pier Bridge moves forward: City Council took one of their final steps in approving an environmental document, enabling the replacement for Santa Monica’s Pier Bridge to be replaced. The pier was originally built in 1937, and has become worn throughout time with an estimated six million visitors that visit this historic landmark annually. The new project will replace the bridge with new modern structure and additional widening measurements to accommodate the volume of pedestrians, vehicles, and bicycles.
🥪 Free lunch for K-12 students all summer long: The Los Angeles County Parks and Recreation Department recently launched a free summer lunch and snack program for youth aged eighteen and under. All youth will have the opportunity to receive a nuturient lunch with fruit, vegetables, seeds, and healthy diary products like milk, string cheese, and yogurt. This program will take place throughout 47 L.A. County Parks and fifteen L.A. County Libraries. A full list with more information can be found on L.A.’s Parks and Rec website.
🏫 New development for a small L.A. neighborhood: a new development has been planned in the small neighborhood of Carthay along Pico Boulevard. The developer, OlivePlant Capital, has plans to build 138 apartments that would also include a restaurant and a retail space. Fourteen out of the 138 apartments would allow for the opportunity to house individuals, and/or families, within certain low-income brackets. The project is located between 6075-6099 West Pico Boulevard in the Carthay neighborhood, between Mid-Wilshire and Pico-Robertson.
🚘️ Fifteen safe locations to practice driving in Los Angeles: This gives me the personal wiggles…because though my daughter is only seven, time will go by fast where I will be looking for locations to teach her how to drive. But no need to worry for those that are already there as MomsLA has got you covered. From practicing after hours at grocery stores, DMV parking lots, and even safe neighborhoods, there is enough space for you and your teenage mutant of a driver to test out the gears and wheels.
📚️ Los Angeles’ most inspiring stories: The fine folks over at Voyage have published a piece on inspirational stories from individuals all throughout Los Angeles (we are all for this, see below). These curated stories cover inspiration, all the way from East LA to the South Bay.
🔮FLASHBACK: CuratedLA gets ‘whatever’ with Max Wittert: hearing about things going on within Los Angeles is great, but reading the stories of others in our beautiful community is amazing. At CuratedLA, we want to hear more of those stories: you can request for us to hear yours by clicking on the submit button below. A story that we recently had the pleasure of hearing, and publishing, was that of Comedian Max Wittert. Max talks about his youth, challenges, and the funnies of life, with everything in-between.

Golf’s 123rd U.S. Open was played in Los Angeles this past weekend at the Los Angeles Country Club. And this had us wondering: what other historic events have taken place here, specifically from the past?
…and come to find out that the first Super Bowl (of many historic events) was played in Los Angeles’ Memorial Coliseum between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. Under Coach Vince Lombardi, the Green Bay Packers would beat the Kansas City Chiefs by a comfortable margin of 35-10.
