NEWS 📰

Happy Tuesday, Community Curators.

We would like to thank those for submitting content to help curate today’s issue. And because of the love we are feeling, we want to share a video that is not necessarily Los Angeles-related, but a video that shows what a community of people can do: help one another.

The video below is of well-known singer Lewis Capaldi (Somebody To Love), who went public recently with his diagnosis of tourette’s syndrome. During a recent performance in England at the Glastonbury Festival on Saturday night, Capaldi had a tourette’s attack, but the audience came in to take over, and those feelings of good have taken over us, even through the computer screen. And thank you everyone for making CuratedLA a place of community.

🐄 Farmtastic fun in Los Angeles: Whether you want to cuddle with camels, pick your own berries, or learn about animal rescue, there’s a farm for you and loved ones in sunny SoCal. In this short and sweet guide from L.A. Parents, we discover six family friendly farms that offer a variety of fun activities for kids and adults alike. From hayrides and animal encounters to educational tours and therapy programs, these farms will make us fall in love with the countryside.

📆 Things to do this week in Los Angeles: From the team over at We Like L.A., here are events that they are fond of, Monday thru Friday.

EATS 😋

🌿 WeHo’s High Hopes: West Hollywood is on a roll with cannabis lounges, the legal public sesh spots where you can enjoy your weed with friends. The latest addition is PleasureMed, a rooftop lounge by the owners of the Pleasure Chest adult store. Another rumored lounge is in the works at a former gym. These join the ranks of the Original Cannabis Cafe, Artist Tree, and Woody Harrelson’s The Woods, making WeHo the hotspot for cannabis hospitality in LA. Whether you’re looking for a tea pad vibe, a jazz night, or a wine pairing, there’s a lounge for you in WeHo. Just don’t forget your ID and your stash.

🌺 A local’s guide to the best Tiki Bars: These tropical-themed drinking establishments serve up exotic cocktails and Polynesian-inspired decor that transport you to a fantasy island. Whether you want to sip a Mai Tai at the oldest tiki bar in L.A., join a loyal order of drooling bastards, or enjoy a scorpion bowl with a flaming garnish, the folks over at Secret Los Angeles has got you covered with their local guide. From Hollywood to Long Beach, these are the places where you can escape the mundane and embrace the kitsch. So grab your lei, put on your Hawaiian shirt, and get ready for some tiki fun!

CITY & GOVERNMENT 🌇

🎬️ Tax credits for Hollywood: California wants to keep Hollywood happy and safe. The state is offering a sweet deal of $330 million in tax credits every year until 2030 to lure studios back from other states. To be eligble for these tax credits, studios have to be more diverse, inclusive and careful. This includes new safety rules that will require a trained advisor and a permit for armorers. Writers on strike hope this means more money for them too.

🛣️ ArroyoFest: A Car-Free Day on the 110 Freeway: We will all have the chance on October 29th to stroll, bike, or skate on the 110 Freeway without worrying about traffic. Thank you, ArroyoFest! The festival will close down six miles of this historic Arroyo Seco Parkway for a day of fun and exploration. This is the second time in twenty years that this event has happened, and it’s not easy to pull off: be sure not to miss this opportunity to see the freeway from a different angle, and enjoy the scenic Arroyo Seco.

COMMUNITY 💜

🧸 Donate toys for smiles: Do you have toys that you don’t need anymore? Why not donate them to the LA County Toy Loan Program and make a child’s day? From Monday to Aug. 25, you can drop off your new or gently used toys at six locations across the city. We accept educational games, video games, dolls, stuffed animals and more. Please no violent or weapon-like toys. Your donation will help over 30,000 low-income children enjoy the joy of playing

REAL ESTATE 💰️

🏗️ District NoHo is getting a makeover: Due to rising costs and financing woes, the developer Trammell Crow is scaling back on some of the market-rate housing, retail and office space planned for the 15-acre site. But don’t worry, there will still be plenty of affordable units, open space and transit perks to go around. Plus, the design has been tweaked to make parking less of an eyesore and a new street more inviting. The project is expected to face the city’s approval process this summer

🔉 Vaudeville Sound Group opens immersive audio studio in Culver City: Vaudeville Sound Group, a global leader in audio design and production, has opened a new studio in Culver City, California, to offer immersive audio mixes for various media projects. The studio features four rooms with Dolby Atmos capabilities, a spacious common area, and a stunning view of the Culver Stairs. The studio will also host events and salons for the local creative community. Vaudeville Sound Group has been at the forefront of immersive audio development, creating sound objects that can be used across different sound environments. The company has worked with clients such as Shutterstock, Penguin Random House, Netflix, and more. For more information, visit www.vaudeville.com

HOLLYWOOD 🎞️

⭐️ Hollywood Walk of Fame, Class of 2024: thirty-one new stars will be seen in coral-pink terrazzo and brass monuments along The Walk of Fame. The list of honorees was announced by iHeartRadio’s Ellen K on Monday and includes names from motion pictures, television, radio, recording, and sports entertainment. Among the notable inductees are the late Chadwick Boseman, Michelle Yeoh, Chris Pine, Gal Gadot, Def Leppard, Gwen Stefani, Dr. Dre, Otis Redding, Ken Jeong, Christina Ricci, Brandy Norwood, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Kerry Washington. The Walk of Fame attracts about 10 million visitors annually and has more than 2,700 stars embedded in the sidewalks along 15 blocks of Hollywood Boulevard and three blocks of Vine Street. The first star on the walk belongs to Stanley Kramer and was laid in 1960. The selection committee of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce chooses the honorees based on their contributions to the entertainment industry and their public appeal.

🏆️ And the nominees are…’ according to Variety: the Primetime Emmy Awards are the Oscars of TV, honoring the best in American primetime television programming. But with so many shows and stars to choose from, how can anyone watch them all? Variety staffers have done the hard work for you, and compiled their own dream Emmy ballot, featuring their favorite shows and performers from the past year

🎸 Eve 6 plays some songs for those walking during the strike:

📺️ Hulu reveals trailer for True Crime documentary: Hulu released the official trailer and key art for the documentary feature, The Jewel Thief, premiering July 13th. The film is an unbelievable first-hand account of Gerald Blanchard, one of the most creative, calculating, and accomplished criminal masterminds in modern history. Two unlikely Winnipeg detectives track Blanchard across the globe as he perpetrates a series of increasingly elaborate heists in a quest for fame and notoriety through a life of crime. The Jewel Thief unravels like a Hollywood thriller through a series of increasingly intricate and thrilling events. It explores the nature of a criminal mind, while uncovering the mutual respect between Blanchard and the detectives who caught him and their shared obsessions with their chosen professions. The documentary is executive produced by Rick Brookwell and Ben Schwartz, and produced by Submarine - Josh Braun, Ben Braun, Dan Braun - and Van Soest.
